Today, SBS Better Brakes is the company’s standard aftermarket brake pad range— delivering enhanced braking performance with a significantly reduced environmental footprint.

From Strategy to Industry Benchmark

Based in Svendborg, Denmark, SBS Friction set out to become the first brake pad manufacturer to adopt a fully sustainable proof-of-business model—covering both production processes and product output.

By prioritizing the transition of its highest-volume compounds, SBS maximized real-world impact across the global motorcycle, ATV, and SxS markets. The conversion of the HF, HS, MS, and SP ranges—representing more than 70% of total brake pad sales—was completed as planned. The SP range has since been fully integrated into the HS series, simplifying product selection for dealers and riders alike.

Environmentally Responsible Brake Compounds

At the heart of the Better Brakes initiative is the elimination of environmentally harmful materials traditionally used in brake pads. SBS Better Brakes are manufactured without:

  • Copper
  • Nickel (in sintered compounds)
  • Antimony (in ceramic compounds)

These materials have been replaced by an advanced iron-based formulation, delivering higher friction performance while reducing environmental impact during use and disposal.

Advanced Bonding Technology

All SBS Better Brakes pads are reinforced with NUCAP NRS (No-Rivet System) technology—an advanced mechanical bonding solution that enhances durability, safety, and performance consistency under extreme braking conditions.

Updated Packaging and Easy Identification

SBS has updated its packaging to clearly identify Better Brakes products. Existing part numbers remain unchanged and are now marked with the Better Brakes icon, making upgraded compounds easy to recognize for dealers and riders.
